I’m interested in how the shapes common to quilting traditions can invoke molecular structures, furthering my interest in showing the connections between living matter. This work also draws inspiration from the research and writings of Anne Tyng, an architect with a doctorate in philosophy. Her life work was based on using the shapes and forms that relate to the 5 Platonic solid shapes (cube, octahedron, icosahedron, tetrahedron and dodecahedron, all equilateral shapes). In my artwork for École Notre-Dame du Paradis, I wanted to focus on the molecule for water, which is given a tetrahedron shape in molecular orbital diagrams. Water forms an important part of the geography of this area, with the Rivière Saint-François a distinctive feature of the landscape. The imagery is predominantly fabric, with detailed images of animals and insects.
