At its essence, an Aquatics Complex is a place where people gather for water. In nature, where there is water, there is life, both in macro and micro forms. My artwork reflects this constellation of life, where the human-built world and the natural world merge. In addition to the subtle inclusion of water molecule structure in my design, I’m interested in showing the interconnection of nature and culture more generally. Images of trees, leaves, and animals mix with fabrics sourced from clothes and domestic usage. Many of these fabrics have botanical prints. Like a jungle or a forest that is teeming with life, the closer you look, the more details you see.
The practice of gathering around water is timeless. Whether it was once humans bathing in rivers, or going to Roman bath houses in ancient times, today we gather at pools. To reference this age-old history, I am integrating some of the mosaic floor patterns from Roman era bath house ruins into this artwork. Additional elements are also be made in detailed mosaic lending a classical, timeless feel to the otherwise modern design.  I want the work to feel both ancient and modern, eras cohabitating.

As the main artwork in the entrance lobby opens up towards the pool area, elements separate. The composition simplifies, becoming more abstract, lighter. These singular elements become like seeds, allowing space for something new to emerge in the future.
