Shelley Miller

Commissioned by the Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) for the École des métiers de la restauration et du tourisme de Montréal, 1822 boul. de Maisonneuve West, Montreal.

Dimensions: diameter 9 feet (2.75m) × 13″ wide (33cm)

Fabricated in Ductal concrete, this sculpture was created by using a negative mould made from actual books. Left behind is the trace of the pages and titles of all the books. The result is a fossil, shaped like a cross-cut section of old growth tree. It proposes the question: what if books become fossils? What if trees become fossils?

This project is part of the Politique d'intégration des arts à l'architecture (1% for art program)
